Using high-quality, unique, and sustainable materials in handcrafted jewelry The materials for the jewelry are sourced from both local and global suppliers and range from recycled to luxurious. We use grain bags for threads, known as kiroba, and nickel-free, hypoallergenic metals. The jewelry is filled with 14K gold or silver. Swarovski crystals, gold-plated beads, and sand and glass beads are used for decoration. Plastic containers are cut and recycled for reinforcement, while suede and silver fastenings give Sidai jewelry an elegant finish. Supporting local Maasai women’s communities and providing sustainable jobs Sidai’s mission is to create sustainable jobs and better economic conditions for Maasai women, ensuring educational opportunities for their children and creating supportive communities, as the Maasai grazing lands are increasingly being destroyed, threatening them with extinction. Maasai women carry the village on their shoulders. They work together in communities to raise all the village children and care for other family members. The task of raising children and caring for others is done with gratitude, love, joy, and much laughter (and some singing and dancing).
